About Ghost Stations™

GHOST STATIONS™ is a market leading series of books by Bruce Barrymore Halpenny that are true ghost mystery and UFO stories generally connected to the Military, but in particular the Air Force and military airfields of World War Two.

Bruce Barrymore Halpenny had been in the 1950's writing historical articles as well as Short Stories. He has since the 1960's been presenting evidence of paranormal activity on airfields as well as campaigning for a 1939-45 War airfield to be preserved, in its original condition, to let future generations see what these bases and their living conditions were really like, as well the history of each to be recorded fully and the men and sacrifice never forgotten.

Because of his specialist knowledge of the Royal Air Force, he had focused on military history and was at one point writing articles for over 14 magazines around the world when he was approached by the publishers Patrick Stephens to do the Airfield books due to his vast knowledge and authority.

On researching for the British airfield histories of the RAF, Bruce Barrymore Halpenny found that public records held very little if any information at all, thus creating a monumental vacuum and gap in not just British history, but also the history of World War Two, so he created the material from the ground up as he did the research himself going back to the very beginning.

This dedicated and extensive reseach, helped to unearth a rich source of information, which other academics, historians and authors have since used, but has set Bruce Barrymore Halpenny as an undisputed RAF expert.

For his research on the airfields, Bruce Barrymore Halpenny interviewed over 1,400 people, researched records and letters and travelled thousands of miles, at a cost that even today would deter even the most dedicated academic and historian.

Such was Bruce Barrymore Halpenny's dedication to the history of the airfields and the men and women that served from them, that he visited each and every airfield, (some of which he had prior knowledge of from his military days), to ensure accuracy.

Bruce Barrymore Halpenny was by the 1980s acknowledged as one of the leading military historians on the RAF and airfield histories. By such time he had been approached by a publisher to do a series of books on Great Britain's airfields at war and though declining to do the complete series, despite having the material on them all, he chose the main bomber counties and London.

This highly successful series was called Action Stations and it was from this that the name Ghost Stations™ was to be naturally derived.

Through out Bruce Barrymore Halpenny's exhaustive research of the RAF and airfields, he encountered time and again stories of either a mysterious or paranormal nature and was intrigued at the similarity of many, despite being witnessed by different people at different times and they not knowing each other. Much of this he had consistently been encountering throughout his years of research and was known to have amassed an enviable and superior store of paranormal stories many of which he had set out to research in their own right.

In many circles, Bruce Barrymore Halpenny was now becoming the leading expert on paranormal activity surrounding military establishments and holding information and data more in depth than any other authority. His good friend Peter Tory, then at the Daily Express as William Hickey, persuaded Bruce Barrymore Halpenny in early 1984, to put just some of these stories into a book, the name being Ghost Stations.

In 1986 the first Ghost Stations™ book was published and was an instant success, with later several more books to follow. The name Ghost Stations™ then became a trademark in the late 1980s. Then in 2008 the new revamped Ghost Stations™ Series, based on the original series, started to emerge, with a clear identifiable strong brand.

Bruce Barrymore Halpenny's Ghost Stations™ book was the first of its kind and the Ghost Stations™ Series has gone on to be the leading authority and source on military ghosts, especially concerning airfields and the Air Forces. Today Ghost Stations™ is the Market Leader in an unrivalled position and acknowledged as Number One, selling books in the thousands.
