The Loch Ness Ghost

Loch Ness, the home of Nessie the Monster and a ghost World War Two flier, is one of the largest freshwater lochs in Scotland.

'Loch Ness Monster is Nazi U-Boat' - screamed the full front-page of the Sunday Sport, Sunday, October 15, 1989. And, to support their claim, a photograph of a U-Boat that was said to have been taken two weeks earlier by an American tourist.

The German submarine was quickly linked to Rudolf Hess, the deputy Fuhrer and stories flowed like tales from the Arabian Nights; with as much credibility.

The German U-Boat in Loch Ness. This is Fiction. But what about the Loch Ness Monster; is that Fact or Fiction? And what about the Phantom Flier? How does the Phantom Second World War flier tie-in with Loch Ness and the Monster? Are they just stories created by people wanting publicity?

So, let us look at the facts that we have on record. Sightings of the Loch Ness Monster started in earnest during the 1930s and, one eye-witness account described the Monster as having a snake-like neck and head and was some fifty feet in overall length.

Over the years there have been many sightings, the sharp increase being due to the fact that communications across the Highlands of Scotland have improved, thus news of any sightings travels faster. Also, there is now a road by the loch-side. And, coupled with all that there is greater public awareness. Monster hunters have been out in force ... but no firm proof of Nessie.

One expert said the Loch Ness Monster is nothing more than mass-hallucination. And the noted anthropologist, Sir Arthur Keith, commented that the Loch Ness Monster was not a problem for zoologists but for psychologists.
