The Moon Gazing Hare In Lincolnshire

In September 1990 Werner Schmidt was on a touring holiday in England. For the past five days he had driven from Dover, through East Anglia and into Lincolnshire.
Werner Schmidt came from Frankfurt and at thirty-one-years of age, not a man to be easily frightened; but that September night in 1990, he was very frightened.
It was just after ten o’clock at night when, coming out of Louth in Lincolnshire, Schmidt made a wrong turning and found himself heading towards Binbrook.
As he drove along the small country road he saw a hare in the beam of the car headlights and, on sighting the hare he started to slow down his powerful BMW.
As he drew slowly nearer to the hare he could see that it was staring up into the night sky. Amused at seeing such a sight, he glanced into his rear-mirror and, seeing that he was alone, pulled into what he thought was a lay-by.
It was in fact part of the old runway of RAF Kelstern at the time; Schmidt was unaware that he was on an old wartime bomber airfield.
He knew of RAF Binbrook, for he had paid a few visits to the airfield with being a Lightning buff; and for that reason, he continued to head towards Binbrook when he realized he had taken the wrong turning.
